16 weeks

We had our 16 week appointment yesterday and everything went great. We heard the heartbeat again, it was 140 and then 150 a few minutes later. We did find out that one of my hormone levels is slightly elevated, so as a precaution we will be doing a sonogram once a month to make sure everything is right on track. The doctor told us not to worry, that many patients have the same thing and nothing ends up being wrong. It will be neat to be able to see the baby every month going forward, not everyone is given that opportunity.

Over Christmas we found out that baby isn't a big fan of flying. I got motion sickness for the first time ever on a plane, and luckily we landed before it was too late! Thank goodness for the acupressure wrist bands, they worked like a charm on the way home. Lately, we've been busy researching strollers, car seats, cribs, pack-n-plays and all that fun stuff.

Our next appointment is January 3oth where we will find out whether we have a little boy or girl. I'm pretty sure we are having a little boy but we will see next month!

2nd Trimester

We hit a milestone...we are officially in the second trimester!

I finally have enough energy to start exercising again which feels great. I started going to pre-natal yoga classes and I love them! Everyone knows how much I love my yoga and I have really missed it. Jason and I went to a partner's pre-natal yoga class together and really enjoyed it. It was mostly learning breathing, labor positions and the best part was back and feet massages for both of us. Jason liked that part too of course. The teacher repeatedly used Jason as her demo (but none of the other husbands), rubbed him, commented on his nice feet and guessed his shoe size. Jason was a great sport and I thought it was hilarious!

Our results came back from the NT scan and everything was normal. Our next doctor appointment is December 30th. Then in January we find out whether we will be having a little boy or girl :) We have started to talk about names, but we are keeping them a secret until the baby is born!

12 week sonogram

Friday morning we had a sonogram and got to see the baby again. What a big difference from the first time at 7 weeks! We also got to hear the heartbeat again and this time it was strong and loud at 155! I think I said "wow!" or "oh my gosh" a million times. Everything went great, and the doctor confirmed our due date of June 17th. The baby was just hanging out and had his/her hands by the face and had his/her ankles crossed. During the sonogram, the nurse kept calling the baby a "little stinker" which is quite humorous being Jason's child! The doctor said it looks like we have a beautiful perfect baby. Doesn't it look like the baby is surrounded by a heart?

12 Weeks: The belly is growing

I woke up one morning to a stomach that I didn't recognize, here's a pic of the growing belly:

160 heart beats a minute

This morning we heard the baby's heartbeat for the first time! Our baby's little heart is beating a healthy 160 beats per minute. What a cool experience! The baby was moving around quite a bit so it was hard to keep finding it, but the few seconds we were able to hear it was more than enough.

Some of my early symptoms are starting to go away and I'm feeling pretty well overall. I just bought my first pair of maternity pants, but no cute baby belly yet. Our 16 week appointment is December 29th.

Baby Hokie

We're 9 weeks along and I'm starting to get some of my energy back. I'm enjoying that while I can! Some of you have asked for a new belly picture, but honestly there is nothing to see yet. My pants are getting tighter and tighter but no cute belly bump yet. We are looking forward to our next appointment on the 25th, when the doctor is going to try and hear the heartbeat with a doppler.

We took a trip down to the Virginia Tech game last week and got the baby prepared for next football season!

Baby also has a few new friends waiting to play:

Heartbeat!

On Thursday, we had our first ultrasound and saw our baby's heartbeat! It was so amazing seeing the heartbeat flash from something as small as a tic tac! Our doctor also delivered my brother and sister, which makes me feel very comfortable. She actually drove home from vacation to be there for the delivery and has been a family friend for a very long time. Our next appointment is November 25th. Keeping fingers crossed that we may be able to hear the heartbeat next time.

The nausea and food aversions have started. Brushing my teeth is an interesting experience and I can no longer stomach two of my favorites: ginger ale or peppermint tea. I took a Tums for the first time in my life and now understand what bloating really is! Confession: I definitely drove home from work today with my pants unzipped. We're only at 7 weeks... I can only imagine what is to come! Jason is being great and has already read a few books on what other crazy things to expect over the next 7 or so months.

Pregnancy Confirmation Appointment

We are 5 weeks pregnant and I had a pregnancy confirmation appointment today with my OB. Everything looks great so far. I have a few symptoms including being really tired. I'm in bed by 9:30 most nights which is really early for me. No morning sickness yet! Our first official appointment is coming up October 30th where we'll have our first ultrasound.

Here are the before pics:
